GHS senior earns place at OSPI art show

Destiny Jones earns place in OSPI art show. Grandview High School senior Destiny Jones is one of seven students from throughout ESD 105 who will have her art piece head to OSPI’s statewide Superintendent’s High School Art Show later this spring in Olympia.

Jones earned the honor, after being chosen as a standout from the entries in this year’s 46th Annual ESD 105 Regional High School Art Show. This year’s art show included 78 works by 70 students of teachers from 14 regional high schools. The high schools represented this year were:  Davis, East Valley, Eisenhower, Ellensburg, Goldendale, Grandview, Kittitas, La Salle, Naches Valley, Riverside Christian, Toppenish, Wapato, West Valley, and West Chestnut Academy.  High school art teachers in the ESD 105 South Central Washington region were invited to submit up to 10 pieces of their students’ art for this year’s regional exhibit.

The juror for this year’s regional show was David Biehlo, assistant professor of graphic design at Central Washington University.  All entries were judged on the basis of mastery of the medium used, composition, and creativity, but without information regarding the name of the school or teacher from which the pieces originated.

The winning entries for the 2018 regional show were announced during the opening reception held on March 2, at the Junior Achievement World site in Yakima.  During the reception Jones received her award for her Prismacolor artwork titled “Benjamin” from Ric Pilgrim, ESD 105 assistant superintendent for Educational Services. Jones is the first Grandview High School student to advance artwork to the OSPI state show since 2010.

There is still time to see Jone’s piece locally. The 46th annual ESD 105 Regional High School Art Show will remain on display at JA World, 650 University Parkway in Yakima, through Friday, March 15.  JA World’s regular hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Then her piece will move on to Olympia for OSPI’s Superintendent’s High School Art Show.  The show will be on display from April 1 through May 30 at the Old Capitol Building in Olympia.
