Purchasing Technology

When Does Technology Work?

Technology is NOT an educator. Purchasing it does not fix underlying problems with pedagogy or curriculum. It can however, be a powerful tool in an educator's arsenal. According to CARET, technology works when it:
  1. Works in concert with the District's technology infrastructure.
  2. Directly supports curriculum objectives.
  3. Provides opportunities for student collaboration.
  4. Adjusts for student ability and prior experiences, and provides feedback.
  5. Is integrated into the instructional day.
  6. Provides opportunities for students to design and implement projects.
  7. Is used in environments where teachers, the school community, and the district support the use of technology.
