Highly Capable Program
Highly Capable Program
Beginning in the 2014-2015 school year, the Grandview School District launched its Highly Capable Program to support students in grades kindergarten through 12 who are performing, or have the potential to perform, at advanced academic levels. This program is available at every school in the district, aiming to meet the unique educational needs of highly capable students.
Referral and Identification Process
Under new state guidelines, the district has set clear procedures for identifying and providing services to students who qualify. Referrals for the program can be made by parents, teachers, school personnel, community members, friends, family, or even the students themselves. Parents must complete a Referral Form and grant permission for testing. These forms can be accessed at your student’s school and are due by the last school day in February.
A district team reviews all referrals and student assessment data. The criteria for screening and program details are outlined in the parent referral form packet. As part of the identification process, a universal screening for all second and sixth-grade students will be conducted in late February or early March, expanding the search for potential participants.
