Highly Capable Program
Beginning in the 2014-2015 school year the Grandview School District began offering a new program targeting students who are performing, or show potential to perform, at significantly advanced academic levels. The Highly Capable Program is offered at every school in the district for students in grades kindergarten through 12. The state has new requirements regarding identifying and providing services for students who qualify for highly capable programs. Anyone may refer a student for testing for the highly capable program. Referrals can come from parents, teachers, school personnel, friends, family, community members or even the student themselves. All parents must complete a Referral Form and give permission for the student to be tested and potentially placed in a highly capable program at your student’s school. The referral forms are available below or at your student’s school. Forms are due to your student’s school by the last school day in February.
A district team will review all referrals and student assessment criteria. The criteria for screening and program descriptions are outlined in the parent referral form packet. In late February or early March we will administer a universal screening to all second grade students in our district. By screening at one grade level we are broadening our search to serve highly capable students. Please call the district Special Services office at (509) 882-8520 or your school principal if you have questions regarding this information.
