Medication at School
Whenever possible, medications should be given at home before or after school hours. If a student requires medication during the school day, Grandview School District must have a completed Authorization to Administer Medication at School form on file, signed by both the parent/guardian and the student's healthcare provider, in accordance with state law and district policy. Medication cannot be given without the completed forms per RCW 28A.210.260 and Grandview School District Policy 3416
Medication Requirements
To administer medication at school:
- A completed Authorization to Administer Medication at School form must be submitted annually.
- Prescription and over-the-counter medications must be provided in their original container.
- Medication labels and authorization forms must match exactly.
- Parents/guardians are responsible for cutting tablets if a partial dose has been prescribed.
Bringing Medication to School
- Medications should be delivered to the school by a parent or guardian.
- Students may not transport medication to school unless approved by the school nurse.
- Schools may not store more than a 20-day supply of medication.
Self-Carry Emergency Medications
Students may carry and self-administer emergency medications when approved by the healthcare provider, parent/guardian, and school nurse.
End-of-Year Medication Pickup
Parents/guardians will be notified to pick up medications before the end of the school year. Any medication not picked up by the designated deadline will be disposed of according to district procedures.
