Student Rights In Washington State
Public schools in Washington follow state laws that protect all students, regardless of immigration status. Under the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction’s guidance:
Washington State public schools will not:
- Deny a student enrollment based on immigration status.
- Require birth certificates or Social Security numbers to enroll.
- Share student information with immigration authorities.
- Treat a student differently to determine residency.
- Engage in any practices to "chill" the right of access to school.
- Require students or parents to disclose or document their immigration status.
- Discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, citizenship or immigration status.
