Assistant Superintendent of Teaching & Learning

Dr. Jose Rivera

Dr. José Rivera is a transformational leader with over 25 years of experience in education and a lifelong lower Yakima Valley resident. I currently serve as the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning for the Grandview School District and community. My leadership skills and experiences have developed and sustained partnerships and work with multi-faceted groups in the Yakima Valley region.

Dr. Rivera started his career as a paraprofessional at Arthur H. Smith Elementary School. He attended Heritage University, where he earned my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. He became an elementary teacher at Harriet Thompson Elementary School, teaching second and third grade for seven years. He loved the classroom and all the students whose lives he touched. However, he returned to Heritage University and pursued a master’s degree in professional development, completing his administrative certification in the process.

In 2005, he accepted an administrative position at McClure Elementary and served as principal for 13 years. He completed his superintendent certification in the spring of 2020 from Seattle Pacific University (SPU), and in August 2023, He successfully completed his educational doctoral degree in executive leadership at SPU.
