  • The last day of school is June 15

We need to announce the new date for the Grandview School District's last day of school. The last day of school will now be Wednesday, June 15. This new date is the result of school having to close for several days during the winter due to weather conditions. The district is having to add those days to the end of the school calendar, pushing back the last day of school.

  • The Elementary Literacy Curriculum Adoption Committee met on April 20, 2022, to share the curriculum review results of our current literacy units of study. The committee has engaged in the review process of five curricula/Publishers. Amplify: Core Knowledge Language Arts® (CKLA)/ CKLA Caminos, McGraw Hill: Wonders/Maravillas, HMH: Into Reading / Arriba la lectura, Savvas: My View / Mi vision, and Benchmark Education: Benchmark Advanced/Adelante are the five curricula under review.

The committee is using the EQuIP rubric to review the curricula. The EQuIP rubric is indorsed and supported by OSPI. The rubric assists in building the capacity of educators to evaluate and improve the quality of instructional materials for use in their classrooms and schools. Attached you will find the ratings for grade level.  The committee also conducted a survey soliciting teacher input as part of providing input on the next literacy curriculum.

We also had additional look fors particular to Grandview's needs. The following guiding questions are used as a lens as the committee does their review of the curricula: Do lessons reflect a Balanced Literacy approach? Are there equitable resources between English and Spanish programs? Does the program provide “mirrors and windows” in literature selections? Is there a PreK (sister) program available?  If so, is it available in Spanish? Is there a balance of reading/writing? Is there a balance of Narrative/Informational/Opinion? Are there opportunities to write in all 3 genres (narrative, informational and persuasive) as well as writing about reading? Is there evidence of the transferability of skills - not story based? The next step in the process is to narrow the list down to two or three curricula and invite representatives from the publishing company to provide a deeper dive into the curriculum and provide samples for teachers, parent and community members to review.

We have narrowed down the list to the following  three publishers:

  • Cultivating Kindness

We are excited to announce that we are starting a new program in the district – Cultivating Kindness! Cultivating Kindness aims to recognize employees for the impact they have made through amazing customer service and communication.

We know our staff is amazing and that we have people who are always willing to go the extra mile for our students and their families. We want to recognize these people and the impact their actions have on our school district and community as a whole.

Every month – October through May – we will recognize three employees. Employees will be nominated by their peers or people in the community. You can nominiate someone using the Google Form linked below, by clicking the nominiation button in the GSD app or by filling out a physical nominiation form at your school.

Every month we will accept nominations through the 15th of that month. Then our Cultivating Kindness Committee will go through the nominations and select three people to be honored at the second school board meeting of that month.

We are excited to launch this new program and hear the stories of how our employees are making an impact on the lives of our families.

Click here to nominate someone who has made a difference.

  • Do you & your students want to know what's for lunch? Keep up-to-date with mobile app. Remember, finding out what's for lunch or breakfast throughout the district is as easy as checking your phone. This year the school district has started using Health-e-Living to create and broadcast our menus and a part of that is the My School Menus app. The app is available in the Apple App Store or the Google Play store under My School Menus. The app makes it a snap to find out what's cooking.
